Here you will learn more about the history and the work of the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin
The principles mentioned above guide the work of the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin. In the mid-1990s, the Evangelische Akademie looked for space in the centre of Berlin where it could realise these principles in lively and stimulating events. It finally found these rooms in the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche.
In June 2000, after a year of conversion work, the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche Conference Centre was ceremoniously opened. A year earlier, at the beginning of 1999, the former Evangelische Akademie in Berlin-Brandenburg became a non-profit-making public limited company. Until then, the Evangelische Kirche in Berlin-Brandenburg (EKiBB) had been the sole sponsor of the Akademie’s work. In the meantime, however, it has found a second partner in the Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland (EKD). The Evangelische Kirche in Berlin Brandenburg and the Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland jointly decided to develop the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche into an inner-city conference centre for the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin.
If you look at the calendar of events on our homepage, you will find the current conferences and events of the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin due to take place at the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche.
